Because dogs differ so broadly in e.g., size, mass, and fur, and thus, having a different ability to naturally keep warm at night, we would not be able to accurately temperature test the sleeping bag to provide a temperature rating as on human sleeping bags.
During warmer climates, your pup might just use it as a bed, while during colder trips–or dogs that generally sleep colder–your pup can snuggle up inside for extra warmth.
This sleeping bag compares to a 3-season sleeping bag. When winter/snow camping, please ensure you have the right sleeping system for your dog to keep them warm and safe.
- Zip the sleeping bag up and turn it inside out.
- Hand wash or machine wash in cold-warm water on a gentle cycle (do not use in toploaders).
- Use a mild detergent (ideally gear-specific > follow their instructions), do not use fabric softener.
- Rinse a few times to ensure all dirt and soap is removed.
- Tumble dry on no or low heat with dryer balls (will help to re-loft your bag).
- Make sure your bag is bone dry. Even a little moisture can cause mildew to grow in your bag.
- Do not bleach, iron, or dry clean.
- Shake the bag out and store it hanging in a cool, dry place away from heat sources. Never store it compressed as it will reduce its effectiveness over time.
- Product info for additional search: Nylon fabric, duck down filling, DWR coating
This depends on how often you use it. If shaking off or spot cleaning isn’t enough, follow the care instructions in the FAQs under Products > How can I best care for my gear. After every trip: If the bag hasn’t been heavily soiled, you can air it out and shake it to redistribute the down, but a full wash isn’t always necessary. Every 20 nights of use: If you use the bag regularly for extended trips, aim to wash it after every 20-30 nights of use. The accumulation of dirt can affect the loft and warmth over time. End of season: If you don’t use the sleeping bag frequently or prefer to do annual maintenance, washing it at the end of each season is a good idea.
Neglecting to wash your down sleeping bag can cause the down to lose loft, reduce warmth, and lead to unpleasant odors, while dirt and oils can weaken the nylon fabric and degrade the DWR coating, reducing water resistance. Over time, this diminishes the bag’s performance and shortens its lifespan.

I recently purchased this ultralight sleeping bag for my dog and I already love it. I am an avid hiker and love to take my dog with me on backpacking trips. I have been looking for the right sleeping system but all the options I found just didn’t work. Mainly, because they were too heavy and didn’t pack very small so that I ended up with having to carry dog gear that was larger and heavier than my own.
This sleeping bag is going to be a game-changer. It does deliver on its promise of being ultralight and with the included compression sack it takes up very little space in my backpack. I also really love the thoughtful design and versatility it provides with the zipper, drawstring around the opening, and the hanging loops.
Just as my human sleeping bag, this bag is also machine washable, which was important to me as there’ll be inevitable messes when going camping with your dog. 😊
I highly recommend his sleeping bag to anyone looking for a reliable, compact, and super light sleeping system for their dog. It does not only prioritize my dog’s comfort but also makes life much easier for me on trips.

Great sleep bag or even a soft place for your pup to relax on. Very light weight and the detail put into how it was made is high quality. Not quite suitable for a large dog, at least as a sleeping bag but works great for my 50lb, 4 legged buddy.

This was the perfect bag to take my pup on an overnight backpacking trip. It’s so light and small (slightly smaller than a small nalgene) that it basically adds no weight to my pack. Chica is not a big dog, so she needs the extra warmth. So glad she seems snug in her Happy Tails bag. (It probably could have fit two of her!) Overall, we’re both very satisfied with this purchase so far (two trips).

Well made, lightweight, small/ easily packable. Exactly what I needed for my backpacking excursions with my furry pals. 10/10 would recommend.

My dog loves the features – I like the great value of this dog sleeping bag.
My dog – she does not like her photo published online – loves her new sleeping bag. It is the perfect size and packs so small and light, that she does not mind carrying the bag herself! Totally changes the way we backpack.
We appreciate the well thought out features: the glow-in-the-dark zipper, compression sack, soft & quiet material and the loops for storage on a coat hanger.

Lightweight and crazy warm. This product is exactly what I was looking for. Most dog sleeping bags are bulky and can’t really be compressed. Since this one has down fill, it seems really flat right out of the compression sack. I recommend keeping it out and hanging it to store. After a couple hours out of the bag it fluffed right up.
Only con is that since it is lightly filled there are some spots on the underside without much filling, if any. I’m planning on having my dog use a CCF mat with it, so it shouldn’t be a problem overall.

We like to go on backpack adventures and have had a hard time sleeping in the tent with our pup because he always wanted to take over our sleeping bags. But not anymore! Otis was happy to have his own sleeping bag! Packs well, light weight, comfty, great price! Recommend to any adventure pup!

Me and my dog are ready for our next adventure!
I have used the past 2 nights inside my house to make sure my dog would use it. It is made of sleeping bag material so it is “slippery” and crinkles a bit. I wanted to know he would lay on it before we headed out camping. He seems to be just fine with.
I have a small dog so there is plenty of room for him. Make sure you pay attention to the dimensions and verify your dog will be comfortable.
I love that it comes with a stuff sack and the loop to hang it up should it get wet. This seems like the perfect bedding choice for my fur baby for our travels. I also plan to use it when we stay in a hotel or at friend’s so that he has his own bed there too.

LONG REVIEW! But it honestly is doing everything right.
I looked at a lot of the available dog sleeping bags on REI and camping sites and felt like I had to compromise which each one on something (price, size, compression, color). I have a tiny dog that in theory could sleep in my sleeping bag, but she’s restless and a toaster. So I wanted something that would actually keep her warm/pad the ground and give her her own space when camping or resting on hikes. This was perfect.
1-love the name and the aqua color is great. It’s texture is smooth and soft. A little crinkly noise, but no more than my own sleeping bag
2-Price was excellent and the quality is definitely there. Seems look solid and zipper is easy and smooth. While my dog is small, she loves to dig on her beds and blankets. We set it out when we got it so she could get used to it and get “house smells” on it before camping, so far no rips or tears after continual usage for 2 weeks camping and at home.
3-It compresses down to a nice size. Just be careful not to pull to hard on the compression straps. You will need to do each strap a little at a time. Popped a stitch when I accidentally pulled one strap all the way down in one go. But stuff/compresses just like my Nemo sleeping bag. Also fluffs up really nice and in about 30-60 secs after full compression. Picture is with a Nalgene bottle for comparison. Could actually compress further if you had to.
4- size is overkill for my 6 lb dog, but since I didn’t need to stress about it being bulky to carry, I’m okay with a bit of extra for her. Zipped up I think it could fit 20-30 lb dogs. If unzipped could fit much larger.
5- has cleaned up really well from dirt, food and lots of licks. Really have only needed to brush things off and water kinda beaded up and rolled off.
6- bonus features: Has some nice extra straps if you wanted to hang it to dry or stake it down. Glow zipper loop is a nice touch. Draw string is nice if you need to keep them EXTRA warm or your dog likes to borrow.
Picture: Happy Trails sleeping bag was used with a “Tiny Tent’s” Basecamp Dome. The two products combined have given our little dog a home away from home.

My rottie loves camping and fishing trips. I ordered this so he would have his own sleeping bag. It’s lightweight, and comes in a small carrying case. It’s too small for him. He can lay on top of it, but he can’t cover with it. It would be nice if it unzipped all the way so I could open it and lay flat. This would work for a medium sized dog.
PickyProductPundit –
My best friend loves it- Doggy approved!
As you can see, his sleeping bag was not the only sleeping equipment he packed but then he’s a bit of a princess. He’s more into Glamping than camping. Anyway, he loves his new sleeping bag. I love how small it is when packed up and how lightweight it is. It’s a little on the pricey side but it seems quite durable. But then, is it too big a price to keep him warm and comfortable… and out of our sleeping bags?!? I think not.

A Win-Win for Both Pet and Owner
This doggie sleeping bag is a total game-changer for my furry companion and my peace of mind. It’s like a cozy dream come true, with its warmth, fluffiness, and silky texture in a striking green color.
My little she-wolf usually sleeps with me, but on warmer nights, this sleeping bag allows her to snuggle up without overheating. I keep it atop of my sleeping bag for her comfort needs during the night.
What I love about it is its versatility – not just for bedtime but also perfect for draping on her lawn chair during our evenings by the fire ring. It keeps her warm and comfy.
The design is spot-on, with durability, an easy-glide zipper, and the added convenience of effortlessly packing it back into its bag. It’s a win-win for both pet and owner, offering peace of mind and comfort in style! 🐾🌙

Helps keep the dogs smell off everybody else’s camping gear
Our dog at the moment is only about 10 pounds and my next camping season will only be about 15 of this badges plenty roomy enough for her. Decided that even if she’s going to sleep on our camping bed, we wanted her to have her own enclosed camping pouch because the outdoors can really make the puppy aromas stronger Lol so rather than making our camping equipment, smell like ripe dog, we have our own to keep our stuff cleaner. Zippers run smoothly without snagging And she seems to like being nestled in it as well. I can’t necessarily speak to the comforter warmth other than she doesn’t try to escape it so it must not get too hot and I see no reason it wouldn’t be comfortable. I need to find out how well the water resistance works..

My Toy Manchester loved it during the power outage.
I like it because my dog is small and she loved the warmth in the power outage recently.

Worked great on 4 day thru hike!
Packed down small enough to carry with me in my bag. Worked great in mid to high 30s. My Vizsla (they HATE being cold) was so warm I couldn’t get him out of it to continue our hike a couple mornings. He did have his jacket on with it as there isn’t a ton of fill in the bag. I’d say for most dogs it is probably good down to about 40 when using the bag alone. A pad underneath it would definitely help too.
Christina Lucia Williams –
Works well
Probably should have done some research before washing it bc its clumpy inside. Before the wash it was fluffy and very easy to pack as we travelled cross countries and this was essentially my dogs bed. It wont over heat a husky and can be packed down very small into it’s sack.
No Name –
My dog loves it!
Great product. Light and great quality. I love it. Most importantly, my dog loves it. Crawled right in on our camping trip.
Ryan Barton –
Packs small and is lightweight
I really liked the small pack size and the light weight. I looked at many different dog sleeping bags and read reviews so was willing to pay a little more for the smaller and lighter bag. My dog seemed comfortable enough on it. He never really burrowed in but it wasn’t super cold either. I set it out by the camp kitchen and he would find it and nap on it. I’m glad I purchased this product.

We love this so much we bought two!
I can’t believe something like this hasn’t existed before now and am grateful someone finally thought to invent it! For years I have always packed an extra down sleeping back for my dog when backpacking. While she loved it (of course!), but it added a lot of bulk and weight to my pack. Now she can still have the comfort of a down bag but I don’t have all that extra weight! PERFECT! We originally got the medium for backpacking for our 65 lb catahoula-staffy mix which will be great on the trail but then realized the large would be perfect on her dog bed for sleeping at home (staffies love burrowing into their blankies!). So now we have two and couldn’t be happier. We highly recommend this lightweight, compact, warm, quality product!

Cat loves it
It’s not just for dogs! My cat doesn’t get inside it, but he loooooves laying on top of it. It’s a very good quality with nice loft.

Love this!
Taking it backpacking this summer but also using it for the cabin trip ver night visits. Much easier than hauling a bed

Cozy Comfort for Adventurous Nights
As an avid camper and outdoor enthusiast, finding the perfect sleeping bag is paramount for a good night’s rest. After trying out the Down Dog
Sleeping Bag, I can confidently say it’s a game-changer.
Firstly, the Down Dog’s insulation is top-notch. Filled with premium down, it kept my pup warm and snug even on chilly nights.
Angela –
Unbelievably nice!
I bought the medium for my 75 black lab mix and it’s huge. It’s nicer than the quilt I bought myself to sleep with and it’s really warm too. Not tons of padding of course but good enough to keep him somewhat comfortable year around and warm when camping in the cold. If unzipped, it’s big enough to use as a quilt for myself. 😂

We love it!!
I am so excited for the summer now that we have this bag for our dog! The materials are good quality and it’s nice to have a bag that packs down small for backpacking but is still a good size for my large dogs!
Amber Darbyshire –
Well worth it!!
My dog LOVES this sleeping bag! It’s a must if you go camping anywhere that gets cold at night. My dog used to wake me up shivering in the middle of the night and I would have to stuff her in MY sleeping bag with me — not the most comfortable. The best part about this bag is how small it packs down and lightweight it is, perfect for backpacking!
Mandy –
Very light!
Male, working line GSD, 90 lbs. He fits great! Hes a pup tho and wants to eat it lol but I’m happy
Kaela Krause –
Took this out for a 3 night backpacking trip and worked very well. I wish it had a little more fill to it. We had a night with frost advisories in place and she got a bit chilly but otherwise it worked well. It packed down decently and wasn’t to heavy for her comfort.
Yennefer –
This is the perfect sleeping bag for any fur-baby. It is lightweight and does come in a nice compact carrying bag, however I pack this inside my own sleeping bag to save space in my backpack.
I also use a insulated sleeping pad for extra warmth and comfort.
Scizzor Hands –
High quality great product the included stuff sack is great… recently used this for my pup on a rather soggy backpacking adventure… kept her safe and snug best part she was damp when I put her in and by middle of night both herself and the bag were dry… great product great price cleaning is as easy as a damp rag and a wipe down very pleased with this bag
*** side note I tried ordering the size large 2 times on Amazon and was sent the wrong size both times… I went to the manufacturer sight and ordered a 3rd time was able to use my Amazon account to pay at the manufacturer site, finally got the right size bag***

Never thought I would see the day. Backpacking her we come.
We haven’t taken this backpacking yet but it is in the plans. My dog is not a snuggler and will not get under the covers with me or by herself. If you put a blanket on her she will get up and leave. Planning a backpacking trip in September where the temps drop by 30 degrees or more at night. Opened this up and she immediately got in her bag and stayed there for a bit. Never thought I would see it. The bag is super soft and seems durable too. Couldn’t find a degree rating on any of the dog sleeping bags but this her pad and her pj’s should work. My dog is 65lbs lean and long. Could have gotten the size down but would treat her the bag be a bit big than too small. And the weight difference for me to pack is so small.
Emily C. –
This sleeping bag is very generously sized for my 50lb dog. He’s been cold when temps get below 55°. I purchased this bag and the z fold sleeping mat from the same maker, and it was the first time he didn’t insist on getting in my bag with me. We both slept better! In fact – I had to insist he get out of his bed in the morning. Both pieces are very lightweight and I did not notice the additional weight in my pack.
Jennifer K. –
Lightweigh and warm
Got this for backpacking and camping with my dog, who is short-haired and gets cold at night. The sleeping bag is lightweight so easy for him to carry on his pack. It opens up nearly fully so it’s easy for him to get in and can be used as a blanket instead. Seems to keep him warm enough, when he stays in it!
A.L. –
As described, I was able to fit the compressed down sleeping bag inside a Ruffwear XS Approach for my 28 lb dogs. It’s also super light so they can pack it themselves. Tested it out of our 2 night backpacking trip near White Pass and I’m very pleased with this product.

My dog likes this bag. It took a couple tries for her to figure out how to burrow inside it but now I just lift up the top and she goes all the way in and curls up. She’s a 60lb lab and the larger size covers her. I combine it with a foam mat to keep her off the ground. She’s plenty cozy and warm. It’s nice to be able to cinch it up around her to keep the chill out and it’s stayed clean and dry despite the drizzle. The stuff sack is really nice to be able to compress it all down for carrying with my gear, it compresses down quite small.
Ryan Gilbert –
If you want a lightweight sleeping bag for your best friend for backpacking or hunting, this is really your only reasonably priced option. The nunatak dog Bivy is a great piece of kit, but it cost $170 and there is sometimes a long waiting list. This bag kept my dog warm down to 24F and I thought it was well worth the weight at 11 ounces. You have to use it in conjunction with some sort of sleeping pad. You can either buy the one that this company makes or buy a Nemo switchback and cut it in half. My 45lb girl fit in the size medium.

I received the sleeping bag promptly! Was expecting to use it backpacking, but haven’t gone out yet. It is light and compact and feels good quality!
Rebecka –
LOVE it! Nicer than my personal sleeping bags. Love that it can unzip into a blanket, too. The loft and warmth of the down is high quality. Beautiful color.
🏕️ Happy tent campers here!

Super lightweight, warm, and very cozy. Excellent quality. My dog loves it (and I have used it and “approve” how warm it is!)
Elijah –
Just used this on a three day hike with my Rhodesian in relatively chilly evenings. She was very comfortable and eventually had to be nudged out of it in the mornings. It’s very lightweight and packs relatively small, she’s 115 lbs and had plenty of space in the larger bag.
Montana Hunter –
Purchased for my 90# GSD. He won’t sleep inside it because he moves around too much but I use it on top or under him and it keeps him warm when we’re backcountry camping or car camping.
Eliza Taylor –
Worth the money! Mt retriever loves this to sleep on for car camping and backpacking. It’s super light and fits perfectly with her gear in her backpack.
Amazon Customer –
I’m thrilled with these sleeping bags for my dogs! I paired them with some kids’ sleeping pads, and my pups were cozy and comfortable. My 80-pound German Shepherd and 70-pound Husky both fit perfectly in a large. We’ve tested them in various conditions, from below 30°F to 70°F, and they kept my dogs warm in the colder weather. The sleeping bags have been through the wringer – muddy paws, wet paws – and they cleaned up easily. They seem to be water-resistant too. Also, great for backpacking. They are lightweight and very compactable. I’m very impressed with the quality!
Ann –
Bought the smaller and larger sleeping bag for a chihuahua and a bully. Chihuahua loves to burrow into her sleeping bag. The Bully loves his as well. Would definitely buy the product again.
Red Hiker –
Perfect for my rat terrier for backpacking. She stayed warm and remained in the bag without issue all night long. Previous bags I’ve tried would eventually flop open and cause her to get cold. Great bag! Compresses nicely.
Meszon –
Amazing product, light weight, tough, dry quick. Definitely needed a sleeping bag for my dog on are backcountry trips. I first bought a small(M) as you can see in the picture it’s a little tight on him. Sent that 1 to my parents for their two dogs and bought a L. Have to say it’s tougher then expected. ( my dog is really hyper)
bassgirl –
This is a well made soft sleeping bag. It’s perfect
Sydney –
Scout loves this sleeping bag! The quality is great and it packs down nicely in my pack when we go backpacking. Scout is a 45lb cattle dog and it fits perfectly. He stays inside of it all night! We’ve had this bag for over a year now and have brought it on all of our trips. Scout would 10/10 recommend this to all of his dog friends!
CC –
Ultra light but ultra thin. I am not sure how much warmth my dog is actually getting and it’s surprisingly bulky when packed for such a thin bag
