Happy Trails PNW Purchase for a Cause

We want to give back and with each order you place through our site, we donate 5% to a rescue or shelter in need.

We are supporting effective dog rescue and adoption campaigns and organizations that train and/or work with service or rescue dogs.

Current donations will go to the Washington State Animal Response Team (WASART). WASART is deployed by County Sheriffs, State Emergency Management, or the owner to respond to disaster and emergency situations involving companion animals and all domesticated livestock.

The donation goes directly to helping their volunteers perform live-saving work and the ongoing need for expensive specialized equipment and maintenance.

• What is the temperature rating for your dog’s sleep systems (sleeping bag and sleeping pad)?
Because dogs differ so broadly in e.g., size, mass, and fur, and thus, having a different ability to naturally keep warm at night, we would not be able to accurately temperature test the sleeping bag or sleeping pad to provide a temperature rating as on human sleep systems.

As for the sleeping bag, during warmer climates, your pup might just use it as a bed, while during colder trips–or dogs that generally sleep colder–your pup can snuggle up inside for extra warmth.
Our dog sleeping bag compares to a 3-season sleeping bag for humans. When winter/snow camping, or camping in colder climates, please ensure you have the right sleep system for your dog to keep them warm and safe.

Our dog sleeping pad compares to a human closed-cell foam sleeping pad with an R-value of 2 (our sleeping pad is not R-value tested, this is just for reference).

• How can I best care for my gear?
Sleeping Bags:

  • Zip the sleeping bag up and turn it inside out.
  • Hand wash or machine wash in cold-warm water on a gentle cycle (do not use in toploaders).
  • Use a mild detergent (ideally gear-specific > follow their instructions), do not use fabric softener.
  • Rinse a few times to ensure all dirt and soap is removed.
  • Tumble dry on no or low heat with dryer balls (will help to re-loft your bag).
  • Make sure your bag is bone dry. Even a little moisture can cause mildew to grow in your bag.
  • Do not bleach, iron, or dry clean.
  • Shake the bag out and store it hanging in a cool, dry place away from heat sources. Never store it compressed as it will reduce its effectiveness over time.
  • Product info for additional search: Nylon fabric, duck down filling, DWR coating

Sleeping Pads:

  • Wipe off any dirt with a damp cloth or brush it off with a soft brush.
  • Use a mild detergent, if needed.
  • Make sure your sleeping pad is dry before folding and storing it.
  • Store the sleeping pad in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
  • Product info for additional search: Closed-cell foam

Sweaters:

  • Wipe or brush off any excess dirt or fur.
  • Hand or machine wash. Hand wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent. Let the sweater soak for 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with cool water. Machine wash at a warm temperature/gentle cycle with a mild detergent.
  • Do not use any harsh products. Do not apply high heat. Both can damage the fibers.
  • Air dry flat or tumble dry. Air dry: Lay the sweater flat on a clean, dry towel and gently press out excess water. Reshape the sweater while it is still damp. Do not wring or twist it. Allow it to air dry away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Tumble dry on a low heat setting. For best results, remove the sweater while it’s still damp and finish air drying.
  • Store the sweater in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
  • Product info for additional search: Acrylic fabric

• Can I wash my dog sleeping bag, sleeping pad, or sweater?

Absolutely! Great adventures include dirty gear. If shaking off, airing, or wiping down/spot cleaning the product with a damp cloth is not enough, follow the care instructions in the FAQs under Products > How can I best care for my gear.

• How often should I wash my sleeping bag?

This depends on how often you use it. If shaking off or spot cleaning isn’t enough, follow the care instructions in the FAQs under Products > How can I best care for my gear. After every trip: If the bag hasn’t been heavily soiled, you can air it out and shake it to redistribute the down, but a full wash isn’t always necessary. Every 20 nights of useIf you use the bag regularly for extended trips, aim to wash it after every 20-30 nights of use. The accumulation of dirt can affect the loft and warmth over time. End of seasonIf you don’t use the sleeping bag frequently or prefer to do annual maintenance, washing it at the end of each season is a good idea.

• What happens if I don’t wash my sleeping bag regularly?

Neglecting to wash your down sleeping bag can cause the down to lose loft, reduce warmth, and lead to unpleasant odors, while dirt and oils can weaken the nylon fabric and degrade the DWR coating, reducing water resistance. Over time, this diminishes the bag’s performance and shortens its lifespan.

• Do you use eco-friendly and/or sustainable materials?
For our sleeping bags, we only use down that is certified according to the Responsible Down Standard (RDS); the highest possible standard for down and feathers.

• Do you test the gear you are selling?
We absolutely do! All products are inspected and tested to ensure quality. We also test all our products on trail and on real adventures in the Pacific Northwest.

• Why do you only offer limited colors?
We hope to offer more options in the future. As we are still a small company, we are focusing on fewer options at the moment.

Did you know that we base our color options on the amazing nature that surrounds us? For example, the glacial blue of the Tahoma Dog Sleeping Bag was inspired by the beautiful, turquoise waters of the mountain lakes in the Pacific Northwest that are fed by water that runs off glaciers.

• Can you tell me more about production?
Sustainability is important to us; it is a long way, but we work hard to minimize our impact on the environment and make more sustainable choices

 • When will I receive my order?
We offer FREE expedited (where available) shipping to most areas in the US.

To provide you with a seamless and reliable shopping experience, we use Amazon’s
fulfillment services and systems for inventory and order management, and to
automate order fulfillments.

Leveraging their expertise and extensive fulfillment network allows us to significantly improve the speed so you receive your order faster.

Due to this integration, we are unable to provide estimated delivery dates during checkout as they depend on multiple factors. However, you will always receive the fastest shipping method available for your order (e.g., based on location).

Every order is typically processed and ready to leave the warehouse within 1-2 days. Once the order has shipped, you will receive an email with the estimated delivery date and tracking information. In addition, you can always check your order status in your account.

• Can I cancel or change my order?

Absolutely! As long as your order has not left the warehouse yet, you can cancel or change your order anytime. If the order cannot be canceled anymore, we offer free exchanges or returns for a full refund for brand-new products, with tags still on within 30 days.

Do you offer gift cards?
YES! We now offer gift cards for purchase. Unfortunately, it is not possible to select a specific amount at the moment; but you can choose a fixed amount in the range from $10-$100.

Do you sell used gear or gear that has minor issues?
Not yet; but, we are working on it and hope to be able to offer this soon. We are firm believers in reselling, repurposing, and repairing gear and reducing waste in our landfills.

Our gear uses quality materials and is made to last; but, we do understand that people might not need it anymore at some point for different reasons. We hope to help facilitate finding a new home for these products.

Additionally, from time to time, we might have new products that were returned but damaged or products that were damaged during production. Instead of discarding them, we plan to offer them at a reduced price.

• Do you offer free shipping?
YES, shipping will always be free.

• What is your exchange & return policy?
In addition to free shipping, we also offer free and easy exchanges or returns for a full refund for brand new products, with tags still on within 30 days. So there is one less thing for you to worry about. In the unlikely event that you encounter any issues, please connect with us via email and we will try to resolve it as fast as possible.

Do you ship internationally?
We currently only accept orders shipping from and to the US; but, we are working to offer international shipping in the future (hopefully very soon).

If your shipping address is in Canada, please reach out via email or place an order through our Amazon storefront.

• My dog’s sleeping bag has a tear, can I repair it myself?
For small tears, patching your sleeping bag is an easy, low-cost at-home fix.

If the damage is covered by our warranty, we will replace or repair it at no extra cost. (DIY repairs are excluded from the warranty.) If you are unsure, connect with us and we are happy to help.

How to patch your dog sleeping bag:
Important, do NOT use an iron on patch. The material of the sleeping bag does not withstand heat. Do NOT use duct tape.

  1. Spot-clean the damaged area with a mild rubbing alcohol wipe to remove all dirt, debris, and oil.
  2. When the cleaned area is bone dry, apply your patch (e.g., Tenacious Tape by Gear Aid, or similar.) Make sure it attaches really well, especially corners that could peel up.
  3. If your sleeping bag has a very small size tear, a dab of Gear Aid’s Seam Grip (or similar) might be enough. Let it dry completely.

• My sleeping pad is missing a corner, what can I do?

If the damage is covered by our warranty, we will replace or repair it at no extra cost. (DIY repairs are excluded from the warranty.) If you are unsure, connect with us and we are happy to help.

Since the sleeping pad is made of closed-cell foam, you can actually cut it into any size or shape you like and it won’t affect its performance. So if there is a corner missing, you might just cut it off straight and it’ll look like new 🙂

• My sweater has a hole, now what?
If the damage is covered by our warranty, we will replace or repair it at no extra cost. (DIY repairs are excluded from the warranty.) If you are unsure, connect with us and we are happy to help.
To repair a hole in an acrylic sweater, thread a needle with matching thread, gently stitch the edges together, secure with a knot, and trim the excess.
